[this had been posted on pjharvey.net and other places, but I can't varify if its real or not]
here's a bit from Australia's Inpress magazine:
"With every work, I try and do something totally different; I really tried to do that with this record and I don't think I entirely succeeded in making something as different as I wanted to but, I wasn't trying to strike any medium between anything".
Polly on why she thinks it's unsuccessful:
"I don't think this is... I mean, I think it's flawed and there are songs on there that aren't so good. I think Cat On The Wall is a very weak song, I think that.. um.. I think that's the one that lets it down the most for me. I'm trying to think what else.. The Letter is quite a weak song."
The Letter is the most obvious track on the album, a link between Uh Huh Her and Stories From The City:
"Yeah, yeah" she agrees.
"Like I said, it's a flawed record, I think - it's not a great piece of work. I tried, you know, I try my best every time, but you don't always succeed."
"I think with this record, it got to a point where I felt.. it really did feel ready to me and I think, on reflection, I could have done something better."
"Is This Desire? is my favourite record of my own. It's the best record i've made and probably the best one I will ever make.. truly"

Re: PJ on Uh Huh Her
Wed, December 1, 2004 - 7:47 AMPersonally I feel this isn't a bad album, but still her weakest. Everything after Cat on the Wall is crisp, but I have problems with some of the tracks on the first half, like Badmouth, The Letter, and Slow Drug.
I actually think the album is somewhat unusual, touched with a certain scrapbook/personal quality, and perhaps she's mistaking that for being its *flawedness*? -

Re: PJ on Uh Huh Her
Wed, December 1, 2004 - 12:18 PMthat sounds really strange.
i personally don't like "cat on the wall", but i really like every other song on the album.
i agree with your comment on it's scrapbook quality. there ain't nothin' wrong with that, either... -

PJ on Uh Huh Her
Thu, December 2, 2004 - 11:47 AMI think it's her second best album after 'Rid of Me' (I count the demos as the same record, but might chose them if I had to) though there are a couple I don't own and have only heard a few times.
it's a beautiful record, and the rockers really rock. which has been missing from the last couple of offerings.
but artistes are not generally known for their objectivity......................

Wed, December 15, 2004 - 11:40 PMThat's nice to read that PJ isn't totally oblivious to her own work. Uh Huh Her is her poorest by a mile. -

Re: PJ on Uh Huh Her
Fri, December 17, 2004 - 12:40 AMbut it's a great album in its uniqueness. it may pale before other works but simple ideas that get out there like on Pocket Knife and signature moods revelled in on Slow Drug, they are why I buy her records. I lap them up like warm milk.

Re: PJ on Uh Huh Her
Sun, January 2, 2005 - 11:37 AMMy exact thoughts. I love 'Stories,' but this album has inspired me more than anything since 'Rid of Me.' -

Re: PJ on Uh Huh Her
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 6:25 PM'Stories' is OK, but a little too commercial for my tastes. I was actually becoming scared when this album came out thinking, "Oh fuck, is she selling out to the masses?"
And then, 'Uh Huh Her' came out, and I said Fuck, Yeah...This is a fantastic album showing whispers of 'Is this Desire' and 'To Bring You My Love' which are my all time favorites (perhaps because I hear Nick Cave's influence on her during their short lived love affair).
It's funny that you folks feel this album is her weakest. I just don't see it at all. It really resonates for me. I feel like I've gone on some sort of journey with this album. It's really helped me through some really lonely nights. -

Re: PJ on Uh Huh Her
Wed, November 23, 2005 - 8:47 PMUh huh...took me a few listen to's to finally get....
I had been listening to Stories pretty much exclusively...my other PJ CD's were mangled and very skippy.
When I went to the store actually looking to replace...To Bring You My Love and one other I came upon her latest which I had no idea was out. I bought it and hated it....but I've given it several listen's and it is quite good....not my favorite, but not her worst.
It's weird...a lot of my favorites were initial hated's....
For some reason I can't listen to Dry anymore.....it just doesn't do it for me anymore.
I have to take care of my CD's better...Now Uh Huh and Stories are both scratched...Damn...Fukk....

Re: PJ on Uh Huh Her
Sun, November 27, 2005 - 1:46 PMI really like this album, nothing negative to say about it at all. Although I agree Cat on the Wall is a weak song.
As for the rest of her albums, I like all that I have heard. I find it hard to critique someone I find so talented.
